And you thought standing bunker guard was a tiring, dangerous job . . . just wait until the average G.I. shows a little of that Yankee ingenuity and natural bent for taking life easy.

 

SUBJECT: Improvement of Bunker Line Defensive Positions

1. Nightly inspections of bunkers has shown the following two items to be common deficiencies.

   a. There are too many chairs and cots on the bunker positions.   Guards using these for comfort invariably are either half asleep or down too low to observe to their front.  For a position with four guards there should be no more than two cots.

   b. There is an excessive use of windbreakers on top of bunkers and in towers which in most cases serves only to restrict the guards vision.

2. It is requested that you take necessary corrective action within your sector of responsibility.
