Claude Barton leaves 1st Bde; notes from 1/14th and 2/14th commanders, news from HHC and Alpha Companies of the 2/14th, as well as sports news. 2/14th will provide one-third of it's strength to form the new 4th Bn, 21st Inf "Gimlets" Dec 15, 1965 Vol. VIII No. 15 Col. William Sandlin takes command of 1st Bde; notes from 1/14th and 2/14th commanders, news from HHC, Bravo and Charlie Companies of the 2/14th, as well as sports news. 2/14th staying together, not providing troops for 4th Bn, 21st Inf, and is taking over theJungle and Guerrilla Warfare Training Center and Kara Village 1966 Jan 31, 1966 Vol. IX No. 2 2/14th lost a large group of men as 1/14th prepared to deploy to Vietnam with 4th Inf. Div. 310 new replacements arrive, training begins again. Deployment to Vietnam looms. Feb 151, 1966 Vol. IX No. 3 2/14th still running Kara Village and training for deployment to Vietnam. Features include a new "Battle Dragon Chant" for the "Two Slash Four Teen In-fan-try!" Sep 23, 1966 Vol. 1 No. 1 The first issue published after the Battalion settled in Cu Chi. It highlights the results of the first few months in combat, lists awards recipients. Dec 2, 1966 Vol. 1 No. 5 LTC William Davis departs the battalion. Issue lists promotions, awards, birthdays, a salute to the medics, and cooks. Sgt Ralph Graff receives the Silver Star. Temporary EM club opens. 1967 Jan 27, 1967 Vol. 1 No. 8 An article about the traditions of Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, an update on recent operations around Rach Kien, a visit from writer John Steinbeck, and updates on replacements, births, and promotions. Feb 18, 1967 Vol. 1 No. 9 The battalion returns to Cu Chi, leaving it's fond memories of Rach Kien, it's wonderful fishing, and its unforgettable mud, behind. The Bn commander gives kudos to the Battalion's performance, as well as high marks for their supporting team of 7/11 Arty and 65th Engineers. May 17, 1967 Vol. 1 No. 13 The 17 May 67 issue of the Battalion newsletter. It contains awards, information on the happenings around the battalion, and the departure of LTC Gillis.
