From S3 to Bde: A VC rallied (Chieu Hoi) at the 2/14 Inf base camp vic XS 743699.
39 1502 From S3 to Bde: A Chinook helicopter coming into Rach Kien received SA fire from vic XS 749703. Chopper was not hit and continued its mission. 45 1735 A Co Patrol 1 reports observing approx 10 rounds of sniper fire from vic XS 754696. No friendly casualties, sniper fire was not directed at them.

4/9 requested a dustoff for an individual who is having a nervous breakdown. He is the senior aid man for A Co, and is being evac to Saigon.

Requested and rec'd permission for 25th ARVN to use gravel mines for opns on 30 Jan.
16 1003 Chieu Hoi turned himself in to 2/14 base camp. 26 1505 CH-47 on resupply mission rec'd SA fire from vic XS749703, chopper was not hit. 28 1740 A/2/14 patrol 1 observed 10 rounds SA fire at XS754696, rounds not fired at patrol. 30 1905 2/14 had a man bitten by a dog, dustoff requested. 38 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues opns LANIKAI and FAIRFAX with 4/9 Inf conducting local security around its bn and company bases. One Co 3/7 Inf and B/2/40th Arty joined elements of 4/9 Inf and prepares to replace 4/9 on opn FAIRFAX. 2/14 Inf continued opn LANIKAI with local security vic Rach Kien and moved co's B & C to Ben Luc as brigade reaction force.
PLANS SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf will continue opn FAIRFAX with airmobile S&D BUDDY opn following a B-52 strike vic XS6289. The Bn will conduct an airmobile assault on multiple LZ's vic XS630893, XS637898, XS642906, and XS646905, to be extracted by air upon completion. 2/14 Inf continues opn LANIKAI with local security opns in Rach Kien area, and provides a two-company reaction force for the 4/9 Inf.
