C/2/14 patrol 2 spotted est platoon size VC force approx 150 meters from their ambush site XS744694.

B/2/14 listening post 4 rec'd 2 rifle grenades, first one at 0105 and the other at 0155 hrs. Approx 45 meters from LP XS741702. Bn Commander has instructed the LP to fire.
8 0225 B/2/14 has man and woman that were trying to come into town. Them man looks like he was hit in the back with a claymore mine. They picked them up. 10 0301 3/22 S-2, National Police, Recon platoon departed at 0210 for location XS895884. At 0250 they had the village sealed off. Reported a lot of vehicle traffic. 12 0455 3/22 S-2 elements have departed village. On way back to base camp, have 13 male detainees and 26 female detainees. 13 0500 B/2/14 patrol 4 rec'd 7 mortar rounds or rifle grenades and some SA fire. No casualties. 15 0550 B/2/14 patrol 4 rec'd 2 more mortars or rifle grenades at 0510 hrs. C/2/14 patrol 2 reported estimated platoon size VC force moving SW from XS745694 at 0515 hrs. B/2/14 patrol 4 rec'd 2 more rounds mortar or rifle grenade at 0520 hrs. 1 round at 0528 and 1 round at 0545 hrs. C/2/14 patrol 2 reported hearing a carbine bolt. Co fwd NW behind patrol location XS745690. Called Arty on estimated platoon at coord XS745690. 17 0605 B/2/14 patrol 4 rec'd 2 more rounds. 18 0700 2/14 reported that 1 PRU was WIA as a result of incoming mortar round, PRU loc in village XS740697, at 0300 hrs. 19 0820 2/14 notified that Mr. Elsburg from Ambassador Porter's office will visit there. 20 0825 C/2/14 platoon departed base for local S&D operations. 26 1036 PRU man WIA at 2/14 loc was Thie U, was evac to 3rd US Field Hospital. 27 1045 A/4/9 located 6 bunkers (2-man structures with overhead cover), 2 were new. Destroyed vic XS788749. 28 1050 3rd platoon C/2/14 detained 2 males and one female vic XS749693. 2 maps of North Vietnam were also found same loc. The female attempted to flee but was apprehended. 30 1205 Msg from 1st Bde Rear: General Westmoreland will visit 4/9 Inf 230830-230935 Dec and the 3/22 Inf 231130-231230 time in between, he will not be with any other 1st Bde units but will be elsewhere. 31 1305 At 1155 hrs Ch-47 in support of 2/14 rec'd 2-3 rds SA fire from XS741699. At 1200 hrs B/2/14 rec'd sniper fire from vic XS736700, returned fire, results unk. No casualties. C/2/14 patrol on local S&D returned to base. At 1240 hrs, 1 platoon from C/2/14 departed base for local S&D. No contact. B/2/14 patrol closed 1250 hrs. Neg results. The 2/14 C&C ship rec'd 2 rds SA fire from west side of village (Rach Kien). 35 1445 The three detainees that C/2/14 picked up at 1030 hrs, 2 were released (1 male and 1 female). 1 male suspected to be draft dodger, and is being sent to Ben Luc Sub Sector. 38 1601 B/2/14 platoon rec'd SA and AW fire vic XS734703, returned fire with 81mm mortars and SA fire. Results unk. 45 2000 B/3/22 CP at XS895785 in firefight with 10 VC who are attempting to enter village. B CP will engage VC. Ambush patrol XS901792 from B/3/22 is behind VC and waiting to block VC escape route. 46 2005 B/4/9 at 1958 hrs rec'd ineffective SA fire (sporadic). Fire seemed to come from between B/4/9 base camp and C/4/9 base camp. 49 2150 2/14 rec'd 13 mortar rounds (possibly rifle grenades) in Bn perimeter. No casualties, damage unk. 50 2155 A/3/22 rec'd (6) 60mm mortar rounds vic XS870802. Results: 1 civilian female WIA (head wound), 1 child WIA (leg wound), dustoff requested. 51 2158 B/2/14 at 2140 hrs rec'd 1 grenade (hand or rifle) at outpost 2 XS741695. Returned fire with M-79, results unk. 52 2220 C/2/14 at OP XS740696 spotted VC at 2218 hrs moving along creek bed, unit waiting to detonate claymore. 53 2250 At XS715834 Fire Fly rec'd ground fire. Will engage with gunship. 56 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues opns LANIKAI and FAIRFAX. B/4/9 Inf conducted a BUSHMASTER with one platoon with negative contact vic XS793804. A/4/9 conducted an Eagle flight vic XS793755 with negative enemy contact. B&C 4/9 Inf continue construction of RF/PF outposts. 2/14 continued preparation of a Bn base at Rach Kien XS743698. 3/22 Inf stood down today. ASCC's are established at Ben Luc, Binh Chanh, Tan An, RAch Kien, Nha Be and Gia Dinh. 4 CAS sorties were flown in support of Bde opns.
PLANS SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf: Co A&B will conduct combined opns with two Co from 3rd Airborne Bn. 2/14 Inf: Co A continues on security for Bde fwd CP at Ben Luc. Co B & C will continue construction of fwd B/C at Rach Kien. 3/22 Inf: Co A will conduct saturation patrols and night ambushes in AO COW. Co B will conduct saturation patrols and night ambushes in AO HORSE. Co C will conduct Eagle flights in AO RAT.
