3/22 elements moved out to a location vic XS903837. At 0152 hrs, S-2, Recon platoon, 15 National Police are to move into a village at XS903837. Will surround village and check all the families in the area.

3/22, S-2 completed opn at 0403, returning to base camp at XS915823 with 6 detainees.
24 0810 At 0801 hrs 3/22 sent in to VC base camp at coord XS840804, 3 loads UH-1D of Engr demo party to destroy B/C complex. Complex under observation by 2 platoons from 3/22 night of 12 Dec. 28 0900 A/3/22 on civic action opn vic XS835785 with 54th ARVN Co. C/3/22 in area of 5th Airborne Bn (ARVN) conducting saturation patrols in AO CHARLIE. B/3/22 in process of destroying VC base camp vic XS840805. Numerous documents have been found, and tunnel complex found. Documents will be evacuated, tunnels destroyed. 30 0930 S-2, 3/22 received 1 VC commo liaison suspect from District HQs at Nha Be at 0900. Being interrogated at this time. 32 1015 B/4/9 rec'd sporadic sniper fire from vic XS798758 at 0945 hrs. Arty being fired on suspected VC location. No casualties. Results of Arty fire unk. 34 1025 At 1005 hrs B/4/9 reports possible Chieu Hoi walked into B/4/9 fwd base with his hands over his head (vic XS784774). 38 1155 At 1147 hrs B/3/22 platoon vic XS838796 has run into extensive booby-traps. Destroying as they move further. 42 1335 B/3/22 platoon still searching area vic 838796, continuing to find booby-traps in area. Movement is very slow. 43 1350 Ref Item 34: Chieu Hoi was returned to 4/9 fwd base at Binh Chanh where he was questioned on local VC activity and at this time he is with C/4/9 at their fwd base to point out possible VC locations and activity in that area. 44 1355 Summary of equipment found by B/3/22 in VC base camp vic XS840805: 18 hand grenades, disarmed and evacuated, 3 booby traps, approx 100 rounds small arms ammo, 20 lbs rice, 8 fortified positions with connecting tunnels, destroyed. 46 1415 B/3/22 had dustoff for one individual with severe respiratory problems and paralysis, they also had one dustoff completed at 1234 hrs for one individual with the same problem which was not called in at that time. 56 1955 B/3/22 rec'd 1 mortar round and sporadic SA fire vic XS884785. Suspected that VC were reconnoitering by fire. No fire returned, neg casualties. 63 2130 C/4/9 sending roving patrol under the auspices of C6. Patrol is being effected because of info gained from Chieu Hoi who turned himself in this morning. 69 2400 SUMMARY: The 1st Bde continues Opn FAIRFAX and LANIKAI and conducted security opn in its fwd and rear bases. Co B and C 4/9 Inf conducted platoon sweeps and CHECKMATES along trains in vic company bases. Co A, B, C 3/22 Inf continue opn in assigned AOs. Co C with 1 company 5th ARVN Airborne Bn conducted a BUDDY opn in AO. 2/14 Inf with A Co continues to secure and improve the base at Ben Luc.
PLANS SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf will continue FAIRFAX with BUDDY opns. 2/14 Inf will continue security and improvement of base at Ben Luc. Co C 2/14 Inf will move by convoy from Cu Chi to Ben Luc. 3/22 Inf will continue FARIFAX with separate company operations.

1st Bde has been tasked by 25th Div to put platoon size ambush in area BRAVO each night general vic XT690166. 1st Bde rear assumes responsibility of area BRAVO. Platoon ambush mission passed to 2/14th Inf.
12 1130 Overlay of temporary AO for 2/14 Inf, effective 131200 Dec 66 dispatched (vic area BRAVO). 16 1752 4/23 patrol vic XT631179 fired on two VC at 1720 hrs. One tracer was observed passing through leg of 1 VC. Wounded VC dropped a weapon and crawled into woods. Other VC fled into woods. At 1740 hrs 4/23 patrol recovered the weapon (M-16 serial SN177934). There was a lot of blood in area.
