Info from G-3: 1/5 Mech patrol at XT625183 rec'd 1 recoilless rifle round. Hit APC, 1 man WIA. Dustoff in the air has not been able to land because of 2 VC throwing hand grenades in patrol area.
15 0704 B/4/9 has 11 detainees, 6 at XS745841, 5 at XS737845, that are being interrogated at this time. 20 0820 C/4/23 had one man with self-inflicted wound at XS760785. Incident reported as probably an accident. Wound is in hand, not serious, .45 Cal. pistol. 24 1010 B/4/9 in search vic XS743846 have detained 46 males, 1 female. Detainees being screened. 25 1010 Radio station was detected XS699717, fired on with 6 rds 105mm. Results unk. 32 1200 4/9 AO sighted VC platoon at XS810799, requested gunships and slick ships. 33 1235 Squad of RF observed VC platoon (Ref Item 32), was taken under fire by VC. 34 1300 Ref Item 32: Further investigation reveals an RF squad, not 4/9 AO, had contact with VC platoon. RF squad reported through ARVN channels, ARVN passed info to US elements at Binh Chanh, light gun team was requested at 1215 by 1st Bde Fwd, possibility of airlifting US unit into area of VC activity is being coordinated by Bde S3 and Div G3. 43 1645 A/4/23 had one man drown at XS600721. Dragging for body. 50 1830 1/5 Mech: Patrol was engaged with SA and RPG-2 vic XT626187 at 1730. 53 1845 A/4/23 received SA and AW and 60mm mortar or rifle grenade fire from est VC platoon vic XS601721. Unit returning fire with SA, AW and Arty. 54 1858 2/14 was advised to provide a platoon for security of 4/9 bunker line. 56 2000 A/4/23 rec'd another WIA ARVN, wound in leg. Dustoff called. 59 2025 A/4/23 had 2 WIA's, 1 US and 1 ARVN. First dustoff completed 1915 hrs, second completed 2012 hrs. A/4/23 claims 1 VC KIA (BC) 66 2203 2/14 reports 2 explosions on bunker line between bunkers 5-7 and outpost Ann Margaret. Bunker 7 fired 1 claymore toward detected movement. 67 2240 A/4/23 rec'd 1 60mm mortar round. Landed short of perimeter, no casualties. 72 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues opn LANIKAI and FAIRFAX and continued security and ambush opns in Cu Chi base area. 3/22 Inf OPCON 1st Bde eff 0600 hrs. 4/9 Inf continued FAIRFAX with S&D BUDDY opn and conducted development of a base at Binh Chanh. Co A moved from Cu Chi to Binh Chanh closing at 1015 hrs. Co B conducted BUDDY opn with 3rd ARVN Airborne vic XS7484. Co C conducted BUDDY opn with PF/RF forces vic XS7777 and XS7975. 2/14 Inf continued local security and ambush opns in the Cu Chi base area. 3/22 Inf conducted S&D BUDDY opn vic XS8579, XS9180 and XS9089. 4/23 Inf continued LANIKAI with Co size S&D BUDDY opn vic XS6071. Co B moved to Ben Luc, Co C moved to Cu Chi.
PLANS SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf (FAIRFAX) will conduct S&D mission and ambush opn vic XS7678 and platoon size search opn vic XS7079. 2/14 Inf continues local security and ambush opns in Cu Chi base area and provides one platoon OPCON to 3/4 Cav. 4/23 Inf (LANIKAI) conducts company size S&D BUDDY opn vic XS6072 and platoon size MEDCAP vic XS604776. 3/22 Inf released from OPCON 050600 hrs.
