From Div G-2: 7/11 Arty counter-mortar radar picked up movement at coord XT69371627. 7/11 given clearance to fire H&I.
11 0555 B/2/14 patrol returned to base camp at 0545 hrs. 21 0945 EM from B/4/23 while clearing or cleaning his .45 pistol accidentally discharged the weapon. EM was wounded in foot. Dustoff was requested. 29 1425 4/9 platoon leader in LOH observed 17 VC at XT696183 at 1400 hrs. Arty is being called in on this location. 30 1430 4/9 advises since 17 VC were observed XT696183 which is vic of ambush site, plan for two ambushes in grid XT6917 and XT6918 are changed to one platoon size ambush vic XT693187. Permission for change in patrol plans approved. 31 1433 Ref Item 29: Arty fired into area XT696183 north XT696184. 36 HE rds fired on target. 59 2312 Maj Roper: 3/4 Cav coordinated with 1st Bde to fire illumination at XT660130. Patrol from 3/4 Cav had enemy contact, reaction force going to contact area to check VC body count. 62 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continued Opn LANIKAI in Long An Province and base security opn in Cu Chi base camp. Construction continued on a battalion fire support base in Gia Dinh Province. A/4/9 Inf moved by convoy to Binh Chanh area to conduct a two-platoon night ambush opn. 2/14 Inf continued base camp security Cu Chi area. A/2/14 provided OPCON for 3/4 Cav. 4/23 Inf continued Opn LANIKAI with a MEDCAP in Long An Province vic XS630776, returning to fwd base camp in Ben Luc. ASCC's remain established at Tan An, Ben Luc and Binh Chanh. Three USAF CAS missions were flown in support of 1st Bde security opns.
PLANS SUMMARY: 1. 4/9 Inf Bn will continue local security and ambush opns in the Cu Chi and Binh Chanh areas. Co A will move by convoy from Binh Chanh to Cu Chi. 2. 2/14 Inf Bn will continue local security and ambush opns in Hau Nghia and Binh Doung Provinces. 3. 4/23 Inf Bn will continue local security and ambush operations in the Ben Luc and Cu Chi areas.
