B/4/23 patrol sprung ambush on 3 people at 0001. XT628141. They were 50 to 75 meters away, fired 1 claymore and SA. No return fire. Est 2 KIA (Poss).

1/27 reported dogs barking and AW fire vic XT628141 (area B/4/23 patrol had occupied).
7 0204 A/4/23 fwd patrol reports 12-15 VC approx 125 meters to their front. 17 0800 Ref Log 55 9-Nov-66: EM was injured by 20mm round supposedly picked up from a RAG boat and brought back to base camp. EM was evacuated to 25th Med. Later DOW (1) other EM slightly wounded. 20 0905 B/1/27 rec'd 4-5 sniper rds between bunker 6 & 7 from coord XT630146. Area checked out, neg results, no casualties. 26 1045 B/4/9 picked up a suspect at XS720790. Suspect stated that a few days ago there were many VC in the area. Also stated there was booby-trapped area vic XS736782. B/4/9 moved to this area and picked up 6 more suspects (5 male - 1 female) who are leading unit through booby-trapped area. 28 1107 B/4/9 located aid station with Med supplies vic XS749781. A check with Senior Advisor indicates there are no friendly aid stations in area. Med supplies will be evac if VC. 29 1200 Ref Log 28: Also located (3) hats, camouflage, (1) helmet, (2) liners, (3) US canteens, (1) pair boots, (1) US nickel, 23,000 piasters, have detained pharmacist, believe area to be a political HQ. Further checking loc, enough medical supplies for trucks to evacuate. 32 1315 2/14 2.4 mortar platoon will be displaced to Tay Ninh 110700 Nov 66. 33 1350 B/4/9 detained a total of 49 detainees, being interrogated. 63 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continued Opns LANIKAI, KALIHI. 4/9 Inf continued LANIKAI with CHECKMATE BUDDY Opn in LANIKAI AO II. B/4/9 captured a medical cache at XS749781 and detained 49 persons for interrogation vic XS736782. B/4/9 returned to the Cu Chi base by vehicle closing at 1604. 2/14 Inf remained attached to 2nd Bde. 4/23 Inf continued LANIKAI with a CHECKMATE and civic action operation with Co C and elements 3/50 ARVN vic XS600759. Units returned to the Ben Luc base camp closing at 1235 hrs. US/ARVN JOC's remain established at Tan An and Binh Chanh. Two USAF CAS missions were flown in support of KALIHI with 2 docking facilities destroyed.
