2/14 bunker line inspected by Lt. Miller. No deficiencies.
Initial log entries contain hourly sit/rep, no change.
25 0803 B/3/4 Cav at XT739150 prior to moving rec'd 4 rds semi-auto weapons fire and approx 6 rds AW fire from XT739152, continuing to sweep north. 26 0805 B/4/23 rec'd 9 rds A/W fire vic XT 740154. Returned fire, results unk. 1 individual from B/3/4 Cav plat WIA from M-79 shrapnel caused by friendly troops. Indiv does not require evac. 27 0825 B/4/9 rec'd A/W fire from at least (2) BAR's vic XS635711. Returned fire with Arty, results unk. Will check area. 28 0825 C/4/9 rec'd heavy AW/SA fire from vic XS643713 resulting in 1 WIA, later DOW. Engaged source of fire with Arty. Results unk. Will check area. 29 0834 B/4/23 located and destroyed 3 grenade-type booby-traps at XT 742155. 31 0910 B/4/9 captured 1 VC WIA vic XS638719. Interrogating VC now. 32 0920 A/2/14 departed Ann Margaret 0907 hrs. 33 0920 B/4/9 at obj B1, 3/50 ARVN at obj H1. VCC WIA was observed running with weapon but does not have it now. Unit searching for it. 34 0927 C/4/9, with approval of Province Chief, destroyed 200 lb salt vic XS648712. 35 0945 Vic XS648712 C/4/9 has 1 WIA, result of sniper fire. 37 1003 B/4/23 loc 749174 receiving A/W fire. Returned fire with S/A. Calling Arty. Neg casualties. 38 1017 B/4/9 consolidating North end of obj 1. Arty to work over VC sources of fire. C/4/9 doing same vic obj C1. VC WIA and C/4/9 now being evac by UH-1D. 42 1105 A/2/14 rec'd (2) rds from approx 8 VC XT 690165. Returned fire with SA, sweeping area at this time. Neg casualties. 44 1130 B/4/23 loc 747175. Destroyed 3 houses and 300 lbs rice. 47 1230 C/4/9 loc XS 638704 receiving sporadic sniper fire. B/4/9 loc XS634713 apprehended (2) VCS, 1 seriously WIA, 1 slight WIA. 3/50 loc XS635718, neg contact. 49 1255 A/2/14 loc XT 692164 located (4) fresh graves, 1 US steel pot, 1 60mm rd XT692164. Being evacuated. 51 1325 B/4/23 found (1) dead VC at XT 715175. Searched, nothing of value. Also 1300 lbs of rice located and destroyed same location. 52 1335 FRAG Rpt: C/4/9 suffered 1 KIA, details unk. 54 1345 Maj Dewey will inspect (1) 2/14 81mm FDC at 1400 hrs. 59 1425 B/4/23 destroyed 15 structures, material for another, numerous spider holes vic XT 744174. Spider holes made up defensive psns around structures. 63 1435 W/4/9 engaged 3 VC at XS649706 using 7/11 Arty. 3 VC KIA (Poss). Observed by aerial observer. 68 1602 2/14 Recon received AW fire vic XT 685164. No casualties. 77 1800 Delayed Entry 1700: B/4/23 stay-behind ambush received SA fire from vic XT 748160. Fire was returned with M-79. 1 VC KIA (BC), 1 VC KIA (Poss), US dog tags, 2 grenades. 108 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues Opns LANIKAI (4/9 Inf) and KALIHI (2/14 & 4/23 Inf). 4/9 conducted S&D BUDDY Opn with 3/50 ARVN. The Opn resulted in 2 VC KIA (BC), 6 VC KIA (Poss) and 1 VCC captured. A/2/14 conducted S&D Opns in the FILHOL Plantation XT6817. 4/23 S&D XT7417. B/4/23 stay-behind patrol sprang ambush at 1700 resulting in 1 VC KIA (BC) and 1 VC KIA (Poss). 1 US WIA resulted from the day's opn. 4/23 Inf fwd base remains XT725150. A US joint opn center remains established vic Tan An XS5065. Eight CAS missions were flown in support of Opn KALIHI.
