Issue II, 1st Bde FAC reports sighting nbr of grey or silver rectangular objects at 646215. Appear to be covering shelters (1) covering a crater from coord 648213 to 625209. Some trenches 15-20 meters long, every 10 to 15 feet is a covered area appearing to be shelters.
27 1013 2/14 reported 1/5 has track stuck at 653176. Awaiting something to tow it out. 28 1015 A/4/23 is not moving, 3/4 Cav has track stuck at 647205. 32 1130 A/2/14 received some 3-5 SA fire and five rifle grenades in response to recon by fire at XT688176. Called Arty and searched area, VC had evacuated. Neg results. 34 1140 4/9 complete MEDCAP and CHECKMATE opn. 77 patients treated on MEDCAP, 166 peopled checked on CHECKMATE. No detainees. 40 1320 G3 Maj Dukes reported that 2nd Bde spotted 6 VC with 2 ox carts and dressed in black XT634175. 43 1405 A/4/23 loc at 656206 (1) concrete bunker 5 ft x 5 ft x 5 ft, being destroyed. 45 1428 2/14 request Cav plat & (2) flame tracks for period 12-22 Oct. Request made to G3. Request approved. 48 1455 A/2/14 loc XT689181, this loc for the night. 51 1545 A/4/23 at 654197, will remain overnight. 57 1740 Duty Off notified 3/4 Cav that C/2/14 is Div reaction force. 59 1806 A/4/23 observed 2 VC vic XT660193. Arty called. Results unk. 62 1831 4/9 rpts; Chieu Hoi's wife reported to C/4/9 that on 4 Oct 66 C/4/9 killed Hai Long, VC material supply Chief of Long An Province. Chieu Hoi with B/4/9 pointed out the man's grave. 97 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continues opn KALIHI with 2/14 and 4/23 Inf Bns, and Opn LANIKAI with 4/9 Inf Bn. The 4/9 conducted MEDCAP, CHECKMATE and S&D opns. 2/14 and 4/23 conducted S&D opns. Four airstrikes were conducted in support of KALIHI, destroyed one bunker, one structure and 80 ft trench system.
