4/9 patrols both enroute to B/C. At 0700 B/4/9 patrol recd several rds of sniper fire vic XS644767. Fire was ineffective. Could not tell direction from which it came & patrol did not return fire. Patrol continued to base area.
33 0750 B/2/14 has started to move. Reports tripped booby-trap. 3 slightly WIA, 2 walking, will continue with unit. 1 will be evacuated by APC. Booby-trapped hand grenade. Coord 692175. 34 0810 4/9 S&D Buddy operation - 1 plat C/4/9 and 1 squad ARVN. Obj area 658791. Sweep both sides of river. 35 0830 B/2/14 XT692176 APC detonated small booby-trap at 0825. Neg damage. Also received sniper fire returned fire w/SA. Sniper fire ceased. Arty called. Results unk. 36 0845 B/2/14 moving again. Found 2 hand grenade type booby-traps. Detonated in place XT691176. 37 0900 B/2/14 located and destroyed 2 structures, 4 spider holes, and 1 tunnel approx 30 meters in length coord XT692175. 40 0930 A/4/23 at LZ discovered 2 dud 105mm rnd, and a trap door leading to a spider hole XT666194. Destroyed duds and hole. 43 1000 C/4/9 at XS657787 spotted 2 VC moving in sampan (motorized) moving north on river. Taken under fire w/SA. neg results, sampan and occupants escaped to north. 46 1040 B/2/14 XT674176 destroyed 3 tunnels approx 10 meters in length. 47 1100 B/2/14 and 3/4 Cav at Ann Margaret. 52 1200 2/14 MEDCAP started 0900 finish 1145. 53 1210 A/4/23 XT656197 found spider hole containing 1 US helmet liner, a 105mm dud, also found a well-destroyed dud. 56 1430 B/2/14 stay-behind plat rec'd 5 rnds sniper fire XT683176, fire was high and wild. Neg casualties. No return fire. 71 2058 C/4/9 fwd patrol had man bitten by snake, bringing man back in, will relocate afterward. 73 2130 C/4/9 soldier not bitten by snake, relocated at 639765. Also PF/RF outpost at 623769 receiving small arms fire, expect an attack about 2400 hrs. 4/9 on 50% alert. 81 2400 SUMMARY: 4/9 Inf continue operation LANIKAI. 2/14 and 4/23 continue Operation KALIHI and base defense.

SUMMARY: Items 2, 3, and 4 occurred on an S&D patrol around the perimeter of the base camp. These casualties bring the total number of non-operational casualties for the month of October to 5. Item 5 occurred on operation Oahu (now terminated) and was corrected on recap for that operation.
