From Bde: Capt Fleming called and said they didn't think the round that came at 2305 at bunker 11 was a friendly round.

C Co patrol 2 closed base camp
10 0545 C Co patrol 1 closed base camp 12 0600 1 truck from B Co reaction force was released by Lt Rapauna to go to Saigon 14 0650 S3: Called Bde that bunker 11 did not mention last night, our people threw a WP hand grenade. 16 1030 Bde called and said they had (3) locations for air strikes in 2/14 area for 30 Sep 66 and wanted clearance from our S3. Maj Griffith said OK. 19 1200 Bde S3: Be advised that the assistant division commander will be visiting HQ 2/14 Inf at 1205 hrs. All 2/14 units were notified. 20 1205 The Assistant Division Commander Maj Connors arrived at 2/14 Inf area. Visited OP Ann Margaret and left at 1230 hrs to visit 4/23. 21 1220 Bde S3: Be advised that your helicopter Red Bird #7 will run a resupply mission for the 4/9th Inf at 1500 hrs. It will be only one run and will return to its mission with 2/14 Inf as soon as the resupply run is over. 23 1320 Capt Palmer of 1st Bde S3 called, stated that 2/14 Inf would have two (2) Long Range Recon Patrols attached eff 21 Sep 66 & patrols will be flown to new AO on that date to join 2/14 Inf Patrols. Will come from 25th Div, number will consist of 4-5 men each. 24 1500 From Capt Voska to S3: Spot report 1240 Gunships D Trp 3/4 received AS XT 491309. Observed 3 men and 1 ox cart from wood line. Individual ran into woods, fire returned. 1437 same XT automatic wpns (2) MG engaged. Unknown results. 26 1602 The Bn S3, S2 and Lt Rapauno left BTOC at 191602 Sep 66 for an aerial reconnaissance of the AO of Opn KAMUELA vic coord XT 4947. 27 1720 Sgt Silbaugh B Co called ref OPORD 14-66 HQ 2/14 Inf, he informed SFC Repass that sub-para m. (2) on page #4 had been cut off and burned. 30 1814 Maj Kubas to S3: There will be some representatives from the Avn Co at the 1st Bde TOC at 1830 hrs, Lt Friend, Capt Byers or Maj Griffith have to be present at the bde TOC at 191830 hrs. 34 2020 Patrol 3 leaving FFL 35 1715 Delayed Entry: Bn CO will have H-23 available for C&C at 200630 Sep 66 until the UH-1D lift is completed approx 1030. UH-1D from RATTLERS A Co 501st will remain at DAU TIENG at that time for C&C and H-23 will return to Bde 38 1900 C Co patrol 1 leaving FFL 39 1940 Patrol 2 leaving FFL 40 1945 From Capt Murphy to Capt Felde Bde 3: 4/23 has taken over bunker 4. 2/14 is manning bunker 5 41 1945 From Capt Murphy to Lt Blake C Co: Be prepared for a Brigade inspection team which may possibly inspect the bunker line tonight. 43 2045 S3: Insure that all drivers in HHC know the loading schedule. Where they have to be and at what time.

At 2305 unidentified WP round landed 75 meters in front of bunker 11 2/14. Checked Arty channels, did not determine it as friendly.

At 2355 hrs scout dog with patrol from A/4/9 was alerted by suspected movement vic of patrol psn. One illuminating rd was fired, nothing detected.
7 0255 HHC 4/9 manning tower spotted light vic XT 684615. Fired 4 rds 4.2 mortar. Light went out, results unknown. 17 0500 2/14 patrol 2 closed B/C 20 0549 2/14 patrol 1 closed B/C 35 0950 C/4/23 called dustoff for (2) WIA (1) KIA result of booby trap and sniper fire. 37 1230 At approx 1100 hrs C/4/23 loc bunker and tunnel complex vic XT 632185. Same general area discovered (2) M-79 rds, (4) rifle grenades, (1) bag asst documents, 100 lbs rice, (4) 105mm rds rigged for cmd det, (1) 60mm rd, (4) M-16 magazines, 3 with ammo. Bunker recd direct by 105mm. Rice and documents being evacuated. Tunnel now being checked. All other stuff destroyed. 38 1245 Fm G2: Agent fm Bac Ha (1) stated he susp VC held meetings there occasionally. Villager fm Bac Ha (2) told agent that some VC visited Bac Ha (2) night of 18 Sep 66. 39 1305 Ref log no 37: Also found (3) canteens, (2) US, (1) VC type, 30 ft electrical wire. 40 1313 1305 hrs at XT632185 1/5 Mech APC hit AT mine. Neg cas, dest (1) road wheel, broke track. Will evac by organic vehicle. 41 1330 Ref Log 37: Bunker constructed of heavy beams, well camouflaged, 7ft x 7ft, 3-5 ft high. Tunnel leading SW about 50 ft w/trap door at each end. 63 1917 2/14 patrol 1 departed B/C 65 1950 2/14 patrol 2 departed B/C 69 2055 4/23 patrol 1 spotted (2) flashing lights, appeared to be signaling coord XT 660175. Patrol moving into location to check out and take people under fire. 70 2100 4/23 patrol 2 spotted 2 persons at ambush site XT649174. Patrol is moving cautiously towards site. 71 2110 4/23 patrol 2 fired on (2) VC coord XT649174. Obs (1) VC assisting the other, assumed (1) VC KIA (Poss) w/starlite. Patrol relocating psn XT648172 75 2140 4/9 tower rpts lights coord XT684152, calling Arty to take under fire 76 2205 4/9 rpts results of fire (ref item 75) est (1) VC KIA. Lights went out. 78 2225 4/9 to fire .50 Cal MG (ref item 75) 79 2235 4/23 patrol 2 spotted luminous light 2235 hrs called arty to hit area XT648172. Patrol 1 had received grenade XT658175. Returned fire, called Arty, sae (3) SA muzzle flashes. Patrol will relocate XT659175. Results Unk. 84 2400 SUMMARY: 1st Bde continued operations on three fronts. 4/9 Inf continued base development vci Ben Luc, on Opn LANIKAI. 4/23 Inf continued Opn KALIHI in FILHOL Plantation with a company plus S&D mission. 2/14 Inf continued preparation for Opn KAMUELA. 1st Bde will continue operations with 4/9 Inf conducting MEDCAP & CHECKMATE (LANIKAI), 4/23 Inf conducting company size S&D mission (KALIHI), and 2/14 will depart for KAMUELA AO vic Quan Dau Tieng
