15 1715 Lt Ebitz: At laterite pit a Vietnamese man brought a not written in English to bunker #2. The note said we were mutilating the grave yard of his ancestors that are buried in the laterite pit, and he does not want us digging it up. He is being detained at the laterite pit. 16 1815 The S-2 and S-5 went to the laterite pit 18 1920 From the bridge they spotted a VC running north approx 360 meters in front of the bridge in the 4/23 area. 4/23 is taking him under fire. 20 2020 Patrol #2 departing base camp 21 2025 Delayed Entry: Bde called and said if our units spot anything out in front of our lines, to fire at them with all we got and if we need any help to call Bde, but keep in mind where the patrols are at. 22 2050 Laterite pit has observed movement in front of bunker #2. Movement in the yard w/starlight. Will be observed. Will observe further and call for illumination if needed. They picked up the man with starlight, he was in his yard and went back in the house 24 2100 From Bde, Capt Patton, increased activity reported by Division around perimeter. Earlier this evening 6 VC engaged with artillery in front of 4/23 area. No other reports of specific activity; however, caution should be exercised. 25 2115 From Maj Kubas to D-33: No aircraft available for recon tomorrow, will call when available. 26 2130 Laterite pit observed movement in house front of bunker #2, fired one round above house movement ceased. 27 2145 From 4/9 observed lights vicinity XT 675014 also believed that helicopter was fired upon from that area. Informed us so laterite pit could also observe, also informed us they had a 2nd patrol just departed FFL ambush site XT 673156 28 2137 Bridge called for medic jeep, 1 man hit with shrapnel from a grenade that was thrown in the river. Sgt Bode - small piece in the left leg, they have a bandage on it now the bleeding has stopped. Med jeep on the way. 29 2143 Med jeep picked up Sgt Bode and took him to 25th Med Bn. Minor wound 31 2220 Fr Dispensary to D33: Sgt Bode, WIA, by grenade fragment, will be evacuated to 25th Med Bn for further treatment. 32 2251 DB-2 patrol in position 33 2257 DB-1 Patrol leaving base camp

31 0726 C/2/14 Patrol #1 dptd ambush site 0712 hrs 33 0820 Pat #1 2/14 closed OP A.M. 45 1940 Delayed Entry: 2/14 rptd at 1715 hrs a man came to laterite pit to Bunker #2 with a note written in English saying that we were mutilating the graves of his ancestors and to have digging stopped. This info passed to S5 50 2030 2/14 patrol dptd 2020 hrs 65 2215 2/14 at 2137 Sgt Bodie threw hand grenade fr Bridge (this is done periodically to stir water up in case VC slipped by). The grenade landed in too shallow water and Sgt Bodie was hit with piece of shrapnel in leg, injury was not serious, was evac for treatment.
