Laterite Pit reports that bunker two andf three were engaged by small arms fire in front of them, at unknown range. No casualties were reported. Aporoximately 20 rounds were received. S/A and M-79 fire was returned. Illumination rounds requested. Also PF outpost was engaged simultaneously by VC. PF outpost returned fire wit hsmall arms and M-79. Two illumination rounds fired with negative results. Estimate two VC with automatic weapons

The NCOIC of the bridge and the laterite pit was told to report to the S-3 upon return to base camp
15 0811 Patrol ldrs received briefing (C Company) 18 0914 Civic action team departing base camp 20 0950 Recon plat found hand grenade in front of laterite pit, pin has been pulled and striker forward. It was one of our own grenades. 21 1000 Liverty 44 will send some one out to dispose of grenade at laterite pit; notified Recon Plat 22 1100 Called Bde for permission for the EOD team to dispose of some ammo at A/M - OK 24 1200 EOD team at A/M to blow up some ammo 26 1100 Delayed Entry: EOD team disposed of grenade at laterite pit 28 1520 Laterite pit found commo wire on ground about 50 meters in front of position #1 leading into village 29 1850 Notified A,B,C & HHC, bunker line, OP A/M be extra alert for increased VC activity tonight. Division indicates strong possibility. 30 1855 Land line out to airfield - notified commo to fix it. 31 1925 From Airstrip to S-3: Reports receiving mortar rounds in area. 32 1926 Bunker 20 reports rounds from mortar 90 degrees 1500 meters - Lt Otjen bunker 20 33 1930 Notified Companies to get all personnel in bunkers. Cu Chi under VC mortar attack. 34 1936 From Bde XO to S-3: Said be prepared for ground attack. 35 1947 D3 is with DA5 making check of line 36 2000 Bde to D33: elements of 1/5 Mech moving to OP A/M 37 1950 Late Entry: Fr wire sect to S-3: Reports broken windshield on wire vehicle while checking wire lines at airfield. Damage caused by mortar fragments. 38 2005 From Lancer 3 to S-3: Do not send out patrol until notified by Bde 39 2009 Notified A,B,C no indirect wpns firing - until notified by D-3 40 2012 OP A/M reports spotting 1 VC 150 meters to left flank of A/M between bunker line and OP A/M 41 2026 From Bde 3 to S-3: Said landslide (1/5 Mech) elements would be firing in front of OP A/M. 42 2030 From Bde 3 to S-3: There will be an airstrike at grid square 6816 43 2037 Laterite pit reports tanks and APC returning thru position. 45 2107 Notified bunker line for everyone to stay in bunker 46 2112 Late Entry: Fr Bridge to S-3: OP at bridge reports sound of 60mm firing from approx 200 meters left of bridge. 47 2113 Late Entry: Fr Bridge to S-3: Reports one round of 60mm landed approx 70 meters to right. 48 2120 Fr Bde 3 to S-3: Reports 4/9 seeing movement about 400 meters to the north of laterite pit. 49 2124 Notified 4/23 and C Co patrols no go. 50 2128 A/M reports 6 personnel in wodline in front of A/M, picked up by radar. Engaged with 105;s and 50 Cal MG from tracks. Results unknown 51 2130 Fr. A/M to S-3: At 2119 3 figures approx 250 meters to left of bridge. Engaged with Defcons. 52 2137 Laterite pit reports tanks and APC back in area again. 53 2155 Laterite pit reports tanks and APC departed area again. 54 2224 Bde 3 called and said (50) fifty percent of personnel on defensive perimeter will be alert and all elements notified. 56 2320 Division called and said tell Maj Whitener that he could not get a chopper at 1300 for the recon because of the lift tomorrow but could give him one at 1530 at pad #2
