Summary
On this day this unit was issued 7,500 a partial issue of 100,000 requested. Tropical Boots and Fatigues were requested for all members of this unit. A request was submitted to the 65th Engr. for a well to be dug. The request was approved. Three (3) mortars 60mm were issued to each line company.

Bde entered div cmd net using new SOI. All bns entered Bde cmd net.
3 0110 2/14 Mortar rounds landed in the vic of Ann Margaret. Undetermined if friendly or enemy. Divb arty ceased all H&I North grid line 22. 4 0120 4/9 Patrol contact: Approx 14 VC moving into ambush at coord 69011620. Ambush sprung too soon. VC disappeared into holes. Results 1 VC KIA (Poss). 5 0159 4/9 request new location of ambush patrol. Reason being mortar and arty firing in the area. (4/9 lost radio contact - will give coord when commo re-established.) 6 0200 Sitrep - Bn land line to Co C 2/14 out - C Co still in contact with OP Ann Margaret 9 0225 2/14 Taken under fire at OP Ann Margaret by undetermined number of VC. Unable to give exact coordinates. Unit trying to maintain radio silence as much as possible to give false pretense. 11 0235 Sniper fire at OP Ann Margaret stopped 12 0235 From Bde: Be sure to maintain contact with OP Ann Margaret. Have all available support ready in case needed. 14 0300 4/9 reports 1 rifle shot vic XT671515. No fire returned. 19 0505 4/9 asked for all artillery to lift - patrol 1 may be lost, patrol has one casualty. 22 0545 4/9 reported patrol 1 setting up perimeter north of river and will not move until dawn. 27 0645 4/9 Co A patrol 2 has returned into bunker line. B/4/9 patrol 2 checking tunnels at ambush site. Tunnels located at XT 684164. 29 0745 S2: 4/9 reports a possible mine vic XT 668159. Description 8" in diameter, 10" long. Brown cloth wrapped around square objects. 250 meters north of bunker line. Recon plat has item under observation. 31 0810 4/9 patrol is back in. It was rptd that wounded man was wounded by member of the patrol. Full report to be fwd. Other patrol on way back. 35 0925 4/23 request 2 Engr sqds for Co S&D opn 5 May 66. 36 0931 4/23 1 Sqd Engrs attached eff 050600 May 66. Squad leader will report to your CP for briefing 041600. 37 0941 4/9 mine reported vic XT 668159 is only a package of trash Ref 29. 38 0945 To all units: Request number of permanent bunkers planned: 4/23 - 14, 2/14 - 22, 4/9 - 16 42 1045 4/23 requested 2 gunships and control ship for search and clear operations period 5 May. Also requested airstrike in conjunction with operation. Request for airstrike for 1500 hrs of 050705 pending 43 1040 Delayed Entry: C/4/9 ambush patrol spotted 3 VC and took them under fire vic 691161. Results 1 VC KIA (Poss) 45 1110 From G3: Security Plat 1/69 Armor needed for escort mission to Go Dau Ha to retrieve dead tank 49 1145 Delayed Entry: Div letter on operation against tunnel complexes received. 50 1145 Delayed Entry: Div letter on Comm Security received. 55 1247 C/4/23 (2) VC at 645169, (1) VC at 646169. No shirts or hats. Possibly flushed from woods by mortar fire. Taken under fire w/MG. VC moved back into woods and fled north. 67 1515 C/4/23 spotted 8-10 VC at XT656174 at 1505 moving east to west wearing greenish white uniforms. VC presently under 4.2 fire. 68 1518 Msg from Gen Weyand thru Col Sandlin thru Lt Col Brown: All daylight patrols to utilize mortar and/or arty fire during the course of the patrol. 71 1550 Delayed Entry: C/4/23 1st Plat sighted 1 VC squad at XT651175 moving across platoon front in groups of two's. Fired on VC with 106 recoilless rifle and 4.2 mortars.. Results unk. 74 1630 C/4/23 81mm mortar mission set off chain reaction secondary explosions from 649174-653174. Time of action 1610 hrs. 79 1830 A/4/23 (3) VC XT 65321754 - 1 in tree, 2 on ground, unit observing Company A. 86 2005 A/4/23 man rec'd sniper fire from XT645169, no fire returned. 93 2150 2/14 Sitrep - 1 VC located at coord 66601680 at 2118 hrs. VC trip flare 80 meters to eastern flank of OP Ann Margaret. VC taken under SA fire poss VC KIA. 97 2340 C/2/14 sitrep - 1 VC spotted south of Ann Margaret on river coord 660165. Uniform not identified. VC had carbine, was brought under fire, VC withdrew. Time 2250. 98 2355 A/4/9 reports 1 VC appearing in front of bunker 4 coord 667158, seemed to be appearing from tunnel. Fired on and withdrew, AZ obtained. Plans are to check for mines and booby-traps at daylight.
