Late Entry. On Combined Cordon and search mission Bde on 12 July B/1-14 loc ZA 148740 captured 4 confirmed VC S-2. On 18 July C/1-14 loc AR 854718 had 11 confirmed VC, 27 July D/1-14 at loc AR 803738 and AR 785732 had 15 confirmed VC. Total number of VC capture during the operations was 30 VC.
Summary
The Golden Dragons conducted four recon patrols throughout the TAOR today. Co A continued to construct defenses at the ASP and the Kontum Bridge. 2/B/1-14 conducted a recon patrol to ZA 191839 and returned to LZ Mary Lou. 1/C/1-14 and 2/D/1-14 conducted recon patrols to ZA 166940 and ZA 196810 respectively. Recon conducted a patrol to ZA 176946 and conducted a night ambush.
Plans: Co A will continue present mission. Co B will conduct a forced march to the Kontum Bridge and the ASP as a rehearsal for a contingency plan to reinforce those locations. Co C will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 171943 and will be prepared to reinforce the recon platoon. Co D will conduct training and secure LZ Mary Lou. Recon platoon will cordon a village at loc ZA 182948. It will be searched by personnel from Kontum Province.

Summary
The Golden Dragons conducted one recon patrol, one cordon and search operations, and one forced march. Co A continued fortifications of the ASP and Kontum Bridge. Co B(-) conducted a forced march from LZ Mary Lou to the Kontum Bridge and the ASP. 3/C/1-14 conducted a recon patrol to ZA 171943 and returned to LZ Irma Jay. Co D conducted training in recon patrols. Recon platoon conducted a cordon and search operations with Kontum Province PRU's. With the recon platoon forming the cordon and PRU's accomplishing the search at ZA 184948.
Plans: Co A will continue to conduct fortifications at the ASP and the Kontum Bridge. Co B will secure LZ Mary Lou, help mix fougasse, and police LZ Mary Lou. Co C will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 141909 and return to LZ Irma Jay. Recon platoon will cordon a village at ZA 174974 for the PRU's from Kontum Province to search.

Summary
The Golden Dragons conducted one cordon and search peration and two recons in force. Co A continued construction fortifications on the ASP and the Kontum Bridge. Co B secured LZ Mary Lou and assisted mixing fougasse. 2/C/1-14 conducted a recon patrol to ZA 141918 and returned to LZ Mary Lou. Recon platoon conducted a cordon around a village at ZA 174975. The village was then searched by National Police and PRU's.
Plans: Co A will continue present mission. Co B will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 184872 and return to LZ Mary Lou. Co C will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 173927 and return to LZ Irma Jay. Co D will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 230834 and return to LZ Mary Lou. Recon platoon will assist in the security of LZ Mary Lou.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued execution of the assigned missions. Co A continued improvement of the positions at the ASP and Kontum Bridge. Co B dispatched the 3rd platoon on a recon patrol from LZ Mary Lou to ZA 195811 and return. Co C dispatched the 1st platoon on a recon patrol form LZ Irma Jay to ZA 173927 and return. Co D dispatched the 1st platoon on a recon patrol from LZ Mary Lou to ZA 230805 and return. The attached Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol, 115 element, was extracted due to radio communications difficulties and a probably compromise of their postition while attempting to exchange radios.
Plans: Co A will continue improvement of positions at the ASP and Kontum Bridge. Co B will cnduct a platoon size recon patrol to ZA 217811 and return. Co C will conduct a platoon size recon patrol to ZA 124934 and return. Co D will conduct a platoon size recon patrol to ZA 192833 and return. The Recon Platoon will provide security for LZ Mary Lou. Heavy MOrtar Platoon will be in general support. The Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol, 115 element, will be reinserted to continue its previously assigned mission.

Summary
The Golden Dragons were designated division reserve at 0805 hours on 5 August. Initial planning was commenced for the possible deployment to Kak To, Dac Tac, Duc Co, or Plei Djereng. A Co continued improvement of defensive positions at the ASP and Kontum Bridge. C Co(-) provided security for LZ Irma Jay. The 3rd Platoon C Co conducted a recon patrol to ZA 133926. D Co(-) provided security for LZ Mary Lou. The 2nd Platoon, D Co, conducted a recon patrol to ZA 192845.
Plans: On 6 August will execute Operation Plan 2-68, A co will CA into an LZ on the vicinity of ZA 144008. B Co(-) will secure LZ Mary Lou. The 2nd Platoon of B Co will secure the ASP. C Co will secure the LZ Irma Jay and be prepared to furnish the 1st Platoon to assist A Co on order. D Co will secure LZ Mary Lou and be prepared to deploy the 1st Platoon to assist A Co on order. The recon platoon will secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will be on general support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons initiated Operation "Hunter-Killer". A Company moved by convoy from the ASP to an RP at ZB 158038. A Compnay established a fire support base with its organic and conducted a reconnaissance in force to the vic of ZB 148025. From that point A Company sent out platoon sized recon patrols; one to the Northwest and one to the Southeast - each traveling approximately 1000 meters out from the patrol base. At dusk A Company moved to ZB 143006 and established ambushes at ZB 136007 and ZB 139007. The 101st RF Company and the Provincial Reconnaissance Unit conducted recon patrols and ambushes in their assigned sectors. B Company(-) provided security for LZ Mary Lou and secured the ASP with its 2nd platoon. C Company provided security for LZ IrmaJay and D Company provided security for LZ Mary Lou with each unit prepared to deploy one platoon to assist A Company. The Recon Platoon provided security for the Kontum Bridge. The heavy Mortar Platoon remained in General Support.
Plans: A Company will continue to recon and ambush in sector. The 101st RF Company and the Provincial Reconnaissance Unit will continue to recon and ambush in sector. B Company will secure LZ Mary Lou and the ASP. C Company will move from LZ Irma Jay to LZ Mary Lou and replace D Company in the security of LZ Mary Lou. D Company will move from LZ Mary Lou to LZ Irma Jay and relieve C company. D Company will provide security for the misesweep from Kontum City to LZ Irma Jay. The recon platoon will provide security for the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will be in general support and will prepare for movement to a position on the FOB II Compound.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued Operation Hunter-Killer. A company conducted reconnaissance patrols to ZA 151998 and ZA 135017, after which A Company moved to ZA 148041 where it established a company size ambush. The 101st RF Company continued recon and ambush activity from its patrol base at ZB 117001. The Provincial Reconnaissance Unit moved to postions in the vic of the village at ZA 131051. B Company(-) continued security of LZ Mary Lou while the 2nd Platoon secured the ASP. C Company moved from LZ Irma Jay to LZ Mary Lou and assumed responsibility for that portion of the perimeter which formerly belonged to D Compnay. D Company moved from LZ Mary Lou to LZ Irma Jay where it relieved C company on place and assumed responsibility for the security of LZ Irma Jay. The Recon Platoon provided security for the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in General Support and continued preparations of a position at FOB II.
Plans: A Company will be in reserve, prepared to support the Provincial Reconnaissance Unit in a Cordon and Search of the village at ZA 130051. The 101st RF Company will move to ZA 158039 for transportation to Kontum City and LZ Mary Lou as appropriate. B Company will provide security for LZ Mary Lou and the ASP. C Company(-) will provide security for LZ Mary Lou. The 1st Platoon of C Company will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 203818. D Company will provide security for LZ Irma Jay and conduct a recon patrol to ZA 147933. The Recon Platoon will remain in general support and will displace to new positions on the FOB II compound.

Summary
The Golden Dragons terminated Operation Hunter-Killer with the return of A Co, the 101st Regional Force Company, and the Provincial Reconnaissance Unit. Due to nearly inpenetrable vegetation, A co did not reach its proposed location but established a night position (for the night of 7-8 August) in the vicinity of ZB 146041. Therefore, the Provincial Reconnaissance Unit conducted the cordon and search operation without U.S. assistance. Upon termination of the operation, A Company returned to LZ Mary Lou and became battalion reserve. B Company continued defense of LZ Mary Lou, and the ASP as well as furnishing one platoon for police of LZ Mary Lou. C Company conducted a platoon size recon patrol from LZ Mary Lou to ZA 204818. The remainder of the company was at LZ Mary Lou; one platoon providing security and one platoon conducting police. D Company conducted a limited recon patrol which did not venture more than 500 meters from the perimeter, however, the patrol circled Irma Jay. The remainder of D Company provided security for Irma Jay. The Recon Platoon continued security of the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in gerneral support and continued preparation of positions at FOB II.
Plans: A Company will provide a 10 man escort for the mine sweep to LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will move by vehicle to LZ Regulars Inn where it will inventory all equipment and ammunition, recover all salvageable material, and complete destruction of the remainder. A Company(-) will remain in reserve at LZ Mary Lou and conduct training. B Company(-) will secure LZ Mary Lou. One platoon will conduct a recon patrol to ZA 190839. D Company(-) will secure LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will move to LZ Ingrid to accomplish a recovery and destruction mission similar to that of A Company. The Recon Platoon will move to FOB II by section and will remain in general support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued operations in the MacArthur AO and commenced execution of OP PLAN 3-68. Co A(-) was in reserve at LZ Mary Lou. One platoon reoccupied LZ Regulares Inn and completed destruction of the firebase. One squad provided security for the minesweep to LZ Irma Jay and the return convoy which encountered sniper fire from automatic weapons. B Company(-) secured LZ Mary Lou. One platoon secured the ASP. C Company(-) secured LZ Mary Lou. One platoon conducted a recon patrol to ZA 190839. D Company(-) secured LZ Irma Jay. One platoon reoccupied LZ Ingrid and completed destruction of the firebase. The Recon Platoon secured the Kontum Bridge and, during the hours of darkness, a 5 ton truck from the 1/92 Arty Bn which was mired in the river 400 meters West of the bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support and displace to new firing positons at FOB II, ZA 235863.
Plans: A Company will be Battalion Reserve and conduct refresher training to include reconfirming of zero's and test firing of all weapons. B Company will continue to secure LZ Mary Lou and the ASP. C Company(-) will secure LZ Mary Lou. One platoon will CA into LZ Tango, ZA 143972, to complete destruction of same. Upon extraction the platoon will CA into LZ Bass, ZA 126931, to execute the same mission. D Company(-) will secure LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will move to LZ Murriel, ZA 141912, to complete destruction of same. The Recon Platoon will secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will remain in general support. It should be noted that the completed mission to be performed by units reoccupying abandoned Fire Support Bases is delineated in OP PLAN 3-68.

Summary
The Golden Dragons detatched A Company to the 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division today. A Company departed LZ Mary Lou by convoy at 1524 hours and, upon closing at the 1st Brigade CP at 1725 hours, became OPCON to the 1st Brigade. B Company continued security of LZ Mary Lou and the ASP. C Company's planned CA's into LZ Tango and LZ Bass were cancelled due to poor flying conditions and poor availability of aircraft. C Company remained at LZ Mary Lou providing security for same. D Company secured LZ Irma Jay. One platoon from D Compnay reoccupied LZ Murriel to execute OP PLAN 3-68. Destruction of LZ Murriel was not completed. The Recon Platoon secured the Kontum Bridge and the Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support.
Plans: A Company remain OPCON to the 1st Brigade. B Company continues security of LZ Mary Lou and secured the ASP with one platoon. C Company will secure LZ Mary Lou with one platoon. C Company(-) will conduct a reconnaissance in force from ZA 217918 to ZA 146901 where it will provide security for the extraction of the AVLB at ZA 146902. D Company will secure LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will conduct a reconnaissance in force to ZA 146903 where they will provide security on the North bank of the river for extraction of the AVLB. The Recon Platoon will secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will be in general support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued operations in the MacArthur AO. A Company remained OPCON to the 1st Brigade. B Company provided security for LZ Mary Lou while its 2nd Platoon secured the ASP. C Company secured tis portion of the LZ Mary Lou perimeter with one platoon. B Company(-) conduced a reconnaissance in force to ZA 146901 where it provided securtiy on the southern bank of the unnamed stream while the Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) was recovered. One platoon from D Company secured the Northern bank. After removal of the AVLB, C Company(-) moved to LZ Thunder at ZA 149896 to execute OP PLAN 3-68. The platoon from D Company moved from the bridge site to LZ Murriel ZA 142912, where it joined D Companies 1st Platoon and continued destruction of the LZ in accordance with OPPLAN 3-68. D Company minus these two platoons secured LZ Irma Jay. The Recon platoon secured the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon continued in general support. At 111841 A Company 1st 35th Battalion arrived at LZ Mary Lou and became OPCON to the 1/14 Infantry.
Plans: A Company, 1/35 Infantry, will be in reserve. A Company will conduct test firing, confirm zeros, and conduct maintenance of weapons and equipment. B Company will secure LZ Mary Lou and the ASP with one platoon at each position. One Platoon will conduct a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 193845, ZA 195831, ZA 200818 and return. C Company(-) will secure LZ Mary Lou. One platoon will reoccupy FSB 15 at ZA 187913 to execute OPPLAN 3-68. The platoon will move by vehicle and foot. D Company(-) will secure LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will return to LZ Murriel to complete destruction of the firebase. One platoon will conduct a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 130916, ZA 125927, ZA 133940 and return. The Recon Platoon will continue to secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will remain in General Support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continue execution of routine missions in the MacArthur AO. A Company remained OPCON to the 1st Brigade. B Company secured LZ Mary Lou and the ASP with one platoon each. B Company also conducted a platoon size reconnaissance patrol to ZA 195831/ At that point the patrol was diverted to the West to investigate an area from which a SPAR report was received (ZA 153837). The area was searched with negative results and the patrol returned to LZ Mary Lou. C Company secured LZ Mary Lou with two platoons. One platoon moved to ZA 187913 to execute OP PLAN 3-68 at Fire Support Base 15 but could not locate the firebase. The platoon returned to LZ Mary Lou. D Company secured LZ Irma Jay with one platoon. One platoon returned to LZ Murriel and completed destruction of the firebase. One platoon conducted a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 125927, ZA 133940 and return. A Company, 1st Battalion 35th Infantry remained attatched. A Company 1/35 devoted the day to test firing of weapons, confirmantion of zero, and maintenance. The Recon Platoon provided security for the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in General Support.
Plans: A Company will remain OPCON to the 1st Bde. The remainder of the battalion, with A Co, 1/35 Inf will execute OP ORDER 5-68. A Company, 1/35th Inf will cordon villages at ZA 237737 and AR 778742. B Company will provide security for LZ Mary Lou and ASP. C Company will be in reserve in the vicinity of AR 769747. D Company will provide security for LZ Irma Jay and be prepared to furnish a one platoon reaction force on order. The Recon Platoon will be in general support and is tasked to be prepared to displace one 4.2" section to the vicinity of ZA 235752 on order.

Summary
The Golden Dragons participated in a joint operation with the 24 STZ today. A Company, 1/35 Inf cordoned villages at ZA 237737 and AR 778734. At the first location 14 indigeous personnel were detained; 6 men, 4 women and 4 children. The detainees were leaving the village on the Northern side when apprehended. The detainees were turned over to the National Police. At the second village one Viet Cong Suspect was captured. This individual, a male estimated to be approximately 30 years of abe, was also turned over to the National Police. C Company occupied an assembly area in the vicinity of AR 765745 initially. When ARVN elements made contact with a small enemy element in grid AR 7972. C Company moved into a blocking position in the vicinity of AR 780737. The Golden Dragons had no contact; however, ARVN forces killed two (2) NVA and captured 2 AK-47's. B Company secured LZ Mary Lou and the ASP. At 1835 hours, a member of the 2nd Platoon at the ASP, SP/4 Hector Tirado, US 50186914, shot himself with a .45 caliber pistol while attempting to clear the weapon. He was evacuated at 1905 hours. D company secured LZ Irma Jay. One platoon of D Company was on standby as a reacting force but not employed. The Recon Platoon secured the Kontum Bridge and the Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support.
Plans: A Company, 1/35 Infantry will conduct a platoon size reconnaissance patrol from LZ Mary Lou to ZA 208808. The Company(-) will be in reserve at LZ Mary Lou. B Company will secure LZ Mary Lou. One platoon will provide security for a minesweep to ZA 146091. Upon reaching that position the platoon will provide security on the South bank of the stream while our direct support Engineer Squads construct a footbridge for use by the local citizens. D Company will secure LZ Irma Jay. One platoon will move to ZA 146091 and provide security on the Northern side of the stream during construction of the footbridge. The Recon Platoon will secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Patrol will be in general support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued operations in the MacArthur AO today with one platoon from A Company, 1/35 Infantry conducting a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 208808 where they established contact with a RF platoon. The Company(-) was in reserve at LZ Mary Lou. B Company(-) secured LZ Mary Lou and the 2nd Platoon secured the ASP. C Company(-) secured LZ Mary Lou. One platoon from C Compnay provided security for a minesweep to ZA 146901. At that point the platoon provided security on the South bank of the stream during construction of a footbridge for use by the local nationals. D Compnay(-) provided security for LZ Irma Jay. One platoon moved to ZA 146901 and provided security on the North side of the stream during construction of the footbridge. The footbridge itself is 60 feet in length, one meter wide, and has a capacity of 600 pounds. The Recon Platoon continued to secure the Kontum Bridge and the Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support. Every activity along Highway 14 increased markedly during the last 24 hours. Although the Golden Dragons were not involved, one friendly outpost (Tri Dao - ZB 1405) was subjected to a ground and mortar attack. In addition, there were numerous mining incidents on Hwy 14.
Intelligence indicates a large build-up of enemy forces just to the South of the MacArthur AO; however, no contact has been made at this time.
Plans: A Company, 1/35 Infantry(-) will conduct a reconnaissance in force to ZA 180810. While returning to LZ Mary Lou an ambush will be established by a reinforced squad. One platoon will be in reserve at LZ Mary Lou. B Company will secure LZ Mary Lou and the ASP with one platoon each. The remaining platoon will conduct a reconnaissance in force to ZA 174835. C Company(-) will conduct reconnaissance in force to ZA 210788. Upon return one reinforced squad will conduct a stay-behind ambush. One platoon will provide security for LZ Mary Lou. D Company will secure LZ Irma Jay with the Company(-). One platoon will conduct a reconnaissance in force to ZA 105938. The Recon Platoon will secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will be in general support.

C Company was released to OP/CON 1st Brigade and joined a Compnay on Fire Support Base 15 under the control of the 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry. D Company(-) secured LZ Irma Jay. One platoon moved from LZ Irma Jay to the vicinity of Highway 14 and estalished an ambush at ZA 213934. A Company, 1/35 Infantry remained OP/CON to the Golden Dragons and replaced C Company on the perimeter of LZ Mary Lou. A Company, 1/35 Infantry also relieved B Company of the responsibility for bunkers 16 and 17. The Recon Platoon continued security of the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued operations in the MacArthur AO. Alpha and Charlie Companies remained OP/CON to the 1st Brigade. A Company, 1/35 Infantry secured LZ Mary Lou. One platoon established an ambush at ZA 216956. B Company secured LZ Mary Lou and the ASP with one platoon each. One platoon conducted a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 215795. D Company(-) secured LZ Irma Jay. One platoon returned from the ambush established last evening. The Recon Platoon continued security of the Kontum Bridge while the Heavy Mortar Platoon remained in general support.
Plans: A Company and C Company will remain OP/CON to the 1st Brigade. A Company, 1/35 Infantry, will secure LZ Mary Lou. The 2nd Platoon will return from the ambush established the evening of 16 August. One platoon will conduct a reconnaissance patrol to ZA 133941. The Recon Platoon will continue to secure the Kontum Bridge. The Heavy Mortar Platoon will be in general support. A special Ambush Platoon will be organized. It will consist of two squads from D Company and one squad from A Company, 1/35 Infantry. This platoon will conduct an ambush in the vicinity of ZA 205962.

Summary
The Golden Dragons continued operations in the MacArthur AO. Company A and Company C remained OP/CON to the 1st Bde and continued to occupy Fire Support Base 15. Company A(-) 1-35 Infantry secured LZ Mary Lou. One platoon conducted a recon patrol to ZA190839. The 1st Platoon established an ambush in the vicinity of ZA205960. The 2nd Platoon returned to LZ Mary Lou from the ambush conducted the night of 16/17 August. Company B(-) secured LZ Mary Lou. The 2nd Platoon secured the ASP. The 1st Platoon established an ambush at ZA229833.

1/C/1-14 has a total of 6 detainees. Five of them claim to be ARVN from Da Nang. They stated they were held captive by 5 VC of which two were killed by gunships yesterday & this allowed the five to escape. C/1-14 killed one of the VC this morning. 2 of the detainees were wounded. IPW says 1 detainee is a VC and he gave some naves of VC, including village chief. The two VC guards who were killed by gunships yesterday were carrying 1-AK47 & 1-M2 carbine. Info is from ARVN detainees.

1/C/1-14 at BT260115 rec'd AW & SAW fire from three different locations resulting in 1 US KIA & 1 US WIA. 1st plt rtnd a hvy volume of fire & the 2d &3d plts maneuvered into the contact area. The 1st plt loc 1 VC KIA (BC) in the area dressed in blk PJ's. There were several hvy blood trails in the area leading to the south. Unit followed these rails and come upon what appeared to be an enemy base camp. Several individuals were spotted w/wpns & C/1-14 opened fire and maneuvered into the area. Several VC ran into a cave when C/1-14 opened fire. As unit swept the area they loc 7 VC KIA (BC) wearing various type clothing. C/1-14 heard voices in the cave and attempted to talk the people out. Several HG were thrown in the cave resulting in 4 VC KIA (BC). Numerous packs and grenades were found in the area. 5 wpns were captured: 1-M1, 2-bolt action Nagants, 1-Bolt Action Deer Hunting rifle w/scope, 96 rds of M1 Ammo, 2 rds for rifle w/scope, 30 rds sub-machine gun ammo, 2 empty clips of ammo for M1, 4 packs, inside were found 1 US survival knife & kit, 1 pr of AF sunglasses w/name L.T.Lemmons, first aid packet, 1 hospital kit, 3 red scarves, 1 peice of radio equipment possibly missing from H23, many documents, a pistol belt w/canteen, cup & cover, ammo pouch, 1 US & chicom grenades, 1 VC gas mask, 6 hammacks, 8 chicom grenades, 6 shoulder patches w/inscription of KIQ THANG 9.

The first was dressed in grey NVA uniform & blk sandals 19 yrs old & the other dressed in blk PJ's approx 24 yrs old.

B/1-14 loc BT287086 apprehended 1 detainee, who showed them where a well was & volunteered to go in well and help search for a tunnel. In doing so he fell injuring his shoulders. Evac to 2d Surg. Detainee checked by IPW and found out he was a member of the Farmer's Assn.

3/B/1-14 rec'd 10 rds SA fire from BT282084 approx 200 meters west of their loc. Rtnd fire and swept area finding 2 military aged males hiding in bunker. Approx 50 meters west found another bunker & threw a grenade into bunker resulting in 20 yr old female wounded by schrapnel. All evac to hill 54. Femal evac to 2d Surg & males to IPW.

A/1-14 loc BT260115 obsvd 1 VC w/wpn in area of base camp. VC fired on e shot at unit and ran into a cave. A/1-14 maneuvered into area & ckd area w/neg results.

B-LRRP had been loc at 291087. At 1855H 2 men went out to put an anti-intrusion device & stepped on what was apparently a mine. Area had no trails leading into it and no signs of recent activity in area. There was a 15' square of thick brush where the mine was employed. The explosion left a hole 1 1/2' deep x 1 1/2' in dia. It also blew over a tree in the area. Results: 2 US WIA (1 serious). At 1945H C&C while making the dustoff at BT287086 rec'd 6-8 rds SA fire from BT282084. Arty was called on area & unit will make thorough search tomorrow.

VC wearing grey shirt & blk shorts, no wpn or documents & carrying plastic bag w/US playing cards, Ho Chi Minh sandals & military haircut.

3/B/1-14 while moving south along a trail at 296071 had their point man spot 6 VC w/wpns dressed in blk PJ's, the point man spotted them at 75 meters. The VC split up w/3 moving east & NE. The point man opened up & wounded 1 VC. The other 3 VC were moving south & carried off the wounded VC. Results: 1 VC KIA (P). Pursued w/neg results.

At 1100H at 298138 3/C/1-14 spotted 1 VC swimming across the river. Unit opened fire w/2 warning shots but when VC reached the other side he began to run. Unit fired 15 rds of M-16 resulting in 1 VC KIA (BC). Wearing blk PJ's w/short haircut. Neg documents or wpn.
